Commercialized SPIO MRI contrast agents

SPIO MRI contrast agents usually consist of iron oxide core coated with dextran, siloxanes, or polyethyleneglycol, and produce very high T2 relaxivities. Metal-doped iron oxide nanoparticles (MEIO, MFe2O4, M=Mn, Fe, Co, Ni) with high mass magnetization are also used to further enhance the relaxation process of the proton nuclear spins. Several commercialized SPIO contrast agents are introduced below. [9]
