Future for DBS

 

 

 

 

 

As shown in the table below, DBS has not only advantages but also disadvantages [3]. And also, DBS carries risk of fatal intracerebral infection [3]. Moreover, the mechanism through which DBS achieves its functional results is still under debate [3]. However, disadvantages of DBS can be overcome by developing the equipment such as batteries and electrodes. Currently, scientists are trying to determine the best area in the brain to treat PD with DBS. In addition, they try to determine the other application of DBS to other diseases. Furthermore, the imaging system needs to be improved in order to provide more accurate treatment of DBS for PD patients. If the DBS system is developed with understanding of its mechanism, it will be safer and more effective for PD treatment in the future.
