The creation of the total artificial heart alleviates many of the problems that arise with heart failure and the lack of donor transplants.  The total artificial heart is able to replace the two ventricles and connects to the atria of the heart.  Once implanted, it is able to replace the pumping capabilities of the diseased heart. Currently, there are two types of FDA approved artificial hearts, which are the Syncardia Systems Temporary Total Artificial Heart, and the Abiomed Abiocor Replacement Heart by Abiomed.
